Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth to improve smiles. This treatment can significantly improve the appearance of discolored, malaligned and otherwise unattractive teeth. In some cases, replacing discolored fillings along with the use of whitening techniques (bleaching) are all that is required. But when more conservative treatments are not adequate, then porcelain veneers are often the best option to give you a great smile. At the first visit, mild preparation of the tooth enamel is sometimes required. An accurate impression and the fabrication of temporary veneers is also achieved. At your second visit, the temporary veneers are removed and the permanent veneers are carefully bonded into place. Once bonded, the veneers are very strong and long-lasting.
Home or Office Teeth Whitening
Teeth naturally darken with age especially for those that are regular coffee, tea and red wine drinkers. Tooth whitening (bleaching) can often lighten and brighten your smile. Soft acrylic trays are custom made for your teeth, and a bleaching gel is dispensed to you along with detailed instructions. You can then whiten your teeth at home safely and conveniently. Maximum results are usually seen anywhere from a week to two weeks of daily use. Another alternative is office whitening. If you prefer a faster result, then office whitening is an option. At your appointment, the teeth that are to be whitened (usually the upper and lower front 8 teeth) are isolated and the soft tissues protected with a barrier. A strong bleaching gel is then painted on the teeth. This gel is left in place for 20 minutes and then washed off and replaced with fresh gel. This process is repeated until the maximum result is obtained, usually 2-3 applications. The bleach we use (opalescence boost) does not require a special light to activate it.
Cosmetic bonding is the use of tooth-colored filling material (composite) to close spaces, cover discolorations or modify the shape of teeth. This is accomplished in a single office visit and many times without the need for local anesthetic. Sometimes tooth whitening is performed prior to the bonding visit to optimize the result. Also, cosmetic contouring or a mild reshaping of the teeth can also be done in conjunction with, or instead of, to improve your smile.
